Columbia Spotted Frog - a fascinating water garden inhabitant

This is a Columbia Spotted Frog that came to my pond and has gotten very friendly. I feed him a couple of worms a day and he allows me to be very close to observe him. This one is about 3 inches long (body length). They are one of British Columbia's common frogs. His latin name is Rana luteiventris. For complete information about this frog and other frogs of Canada please visit this page of FrogWatch.
Froggy spends most of his time close to the waters edge. He sits very still and waits for prey to come to him. The Columbia Spotted Frog only calls when it is mating time so we never here him now. He has his choice of 3 ponds but prefers the deepest one along with the koi, goldfish and turtles. The pond is about 5 feet deep, 18 feet length and 12 feet across. It offers a long log to sit on and a variety of pond and marsh type plants. Froggy only goes down deep when he is very scared which is not often. He has gotten used to us humans being around him and the dogs going for a drink.
